I have used this router for 1 year so far. Bought it because it has a feature of being a print server. Unfortunately, this did not work for me. It supports mostly newer printers and my older Brother laser printer is not supported. That is the only reason why not giving it rating 5. Everything else is excellent:
- range - covers entire house, - speed - actual throughput is 50 - 80 Mbps when using mixed mode b/g/n and 75 - 100 Mbps when using n-only mode, - stability - after upgrading firmware, did not restart for months, - features - I specifically liked access control - to restrict Internet usage to kids, but there is also bandwidth control and multiple SSIDs, - USB file sharing - I put external USB HD and shared it on the network. Pros: range, wireless speed, stability, USB file sharing Cons: limited printer support, no gigabit LAN ports
I have been using this router for several years. I don't recall exactly when but it has replaced my old blue Linksys WRT54G v2.0 that died an untimely death for no apparent reason after only 11 years of service. :(
This device has served my needs well. I discovered it is compatible with DD-WRT and has a near constant stream of updated betas. All functions work as advertised. All seems to be within spec. I get long uptimes measured in months. No drop outs in wireless and usually have three devices running simultaneously. The wired ports work as well as could be expected, no drop outs. The thing never gets more than slightly warm even when hammering downloads. Over all this has been a worthy successor to my venerable and still missed Blue WRT. I would suggest anyone wanting a cheap and capable router that can run DD-WRT and needs a stable and trouble free device consider one of these.
Addendum:
As of today the good news is this little saucer box still works tickety boo. Continuing string of betas from DD-WRT have continued to be trouble free. I almost forgot about the switch that turns the wifi off and on. I wish more had this feature. |
