If you want your computer to shut off without pushing the power button you need to do the following:

1. Right click 'My Computer' and select 'Properites'

2. Click on the 'Hardware' tab

3. Click on the 'Device Manager' button

4. On the Device Manager menubar click on 'View' then 'Show hidden ...

Is <IP Address> testbocks.<domain name> testbocks added to your /etc/hosts file? From what I can see and understand in the posts your hostname doesn't resolve. Look at the hosts file, read 'man hosts' to learn how to add the info you need to it.

Just a quick thought. Were you able to get all of the files you wanted to keep on CD? If so why don't you just use the recovery CD and go back to the factory install? If that still doesn't work, try booting to a DOS disk, format c:\ then run scandisk with surface scanning to see if your hard drive ...

Another problem may be that your primary partition is formatted NTFS and your backup is FAT32. When you boot to your boot disk DOS 'ignores' the NTFS partition because DOS cannot read NTFS and doesn't see it.
