XFree86 Config problem here.

I always hit a snare on the X config on the monitor.

I have a Dell M781s, heres the specs:
-Horz. ref. rate---30/85 kHz
-Vert. ref. rate---50/160 kHz
The highest preset res is 1600x1200@60Hz.
I tried to do Libranet to ease my way into Debian and hit this same snag. I get it in Free BSD too. Wich rate should I use?
I need serious help here because I can't stand drake much anymore.
To recap wich rate should I use in Linux and BSD to get X to run??

For all I know your mouse is'nt configured correctly which is causing X to crash. What error messages does X exit on>?

BTW, Debian has autodetection packages that can help you configure X. Check out mdetect, discover, and read-edid.

BTW, you can search the Debian package repository by using apt-cache

Stef is right. We need some more information. Error messages, log messages, etc. If you can, copy/paste the contents of the config file, somebody should be able to help you then.

The version of Libranet (2.0) I installed has an old x86 (circa 2k1). I don't even know how to update it from cli. So I"ve decided to stick with Drake and learn nix from there.
When I reinstalled Drake I did an expert partition:
/, /swap, /usr, /home, /var, /home all on an XFS.

. I figure I have to learn without relying on the easy way out of such RH based distros. When I get used to the filesystem, texteditors and commands I'll get a book and try debian (unless I get frustrated and buy a book now and wing it). I still want to learn BSD too. I just have to do my homework.
Libranet saw everything but my monitor (is debian this good too?) After I configed it to manufacturer specs it was a no go.
Than I noticed the date on the X installed and that explained it all. I have no clue hoe=w to config X at all. I will learn though.

You know, you could always burn a Knoppix CD and install Debian from there. Just burn it, boot it, and run knx-hdinstall.

It hangs on me. It seems the kernel is corupt. I'll redownload it again latter.
