The Beacon 1 supports Dual-Band Wi-Fi with AC1200 speeds and has 2-gigabit Ethernet ports. A single Beacon 1 router can cover an estimated 140 square meters (1500 sq. feet) but its key feature is its mesh support where you can hook three of them to seamlessly cover even larger areas up to 420 square meters (4500 sq. feet). Nokia also provides its Wi-Fi app for device management. From there you get a heat map for fixing dead zones as well as a list of connected devices. There's also a pre-pairing feature for the Beacon 1 multi packs which allows you to install only one of the routers while the others will set up and connect automatically. An Intelligent Channel Selection feature is designed to allow the units choose the best channel and band to avoid interference from other local devices, and it's able to identify devices on your network, and optimize their connection accordingly. Nokia WiFi Mesh automatically and seamlessly combines Ethernet, 5 GHz Wi-Fi and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi to connect beacons. When needed, it automatically reroutes traffic to another beacon. Bridge mode function allows users to quickly connect a beacon to an existing gateway with routing functionality. While in bridge mode, the existing residential gateway will perform the basic routing function, while the beacons provide WiFi to ensure optimal performance throughout the home.
