Keebox W150NR

details: Wireless N 150 Home Router
hardware type: Wireless Router
date added: 2012-10-22
updated: 2012-10-31
The W150NR Wireless N Router is a combined wired/wireless network connection device. It complies with the IEEE 802.11n standard with wireless transmission speeds of up to 150Mbps. The router features 4 10/100Mbps ports and works well with other 11g and 11n protocol wireless products.

The W150NR provides multiple security features, such as WEP encryption, WPA, and WPA2 authentication. WMM (QoS) prioritizes traffic over the network. A WPS button allows for easy wireless security configuration.

A built-in firewall protects the network against Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. A user-friendly interface allows for simple and easy configuration.

The KEEBOX W150NR may have some resistance to denial of service attachs, but on Road Runner / Time Warner, a Denial-of-Service event takes only about between 30 minutes to several hours of being online, though when the router is actively delivering and receiving intended traffic, the router is less likely to be affected by a DOS attack. The effectiveness of DOS attacks seem to be greatest when the router is not receiving that much data.

The attacks appear to be related to blocked attacks reported, coming mostly from Fujitsu in Japan (202.248.229.0/24), though neither KEEBOX nor Fujitsu have had any comment on firewall reports sent to them.

Since the KEEBOX log does not report on IPv6 and the firewall does not mitigate IPv6, it may also be related to situations similar to the numerous IPv6 malformed packet vulnerabilities reported for other routers. This is based on the observation that the router has fewer DOS events since we actively blocked the IP 6 to 4 Anycast range: 192.88.99.0/24.

We use the KEEBOX W150NR as our outer-routers. While they do a pretty fair job, some unwanted traffic still make it through to the inner routers, which are not KEEBOX.
