Google is going to kill its YouTube Gaming app and folding some of the features into a new gaming destination on its main site. The Google-owned video sharing site on Tuesday launched a new gaming hub, where you can browse uploaded videos and live streams.

In 2015, YouTube launched a separate app dedicated to games and helping gamers find more videos. YouTube Gaming — the app and desktop versions — offers livestreams and archived videos of tens of thousands of games, each one with its own page. Live chats with other gamers is another feature of the service, and players can peruse video recommendations based on their favorite games.

"We have a strong and vibrant audience on the YouTube Gaming app, but the amount of gamers we are able to reach is far bigger on YouTube," wrote YouTube director of product management Christina Chen in a blog post Tuesday. "After all, YouTube is where more than 200 million gamers come to engage with your favorite games and creators every day, watching over 50 billion hours of gaming content in the last 12 months alone."

The new gaming portal, which will integrate more clearly onto the main site, is built around discovering creators. The gaming hub will also resemble the standard homepage familiar to YouTube users. The original YouTube Gaming app will remain available during the transition, but it will officially shut down in March 2019.
