Industry association the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) has announced a Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPr) 2.0 specification upgrade that its members will trial. The WBA designed WISPr 2.0 to aid roaming between Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs). It should provide better authentication between WiFi networks and other networks like GSM/UMTS/LTE and WiMAX. WISPr 2.0 was also developed to make interoperability between networks easier. The WISPr 2.0 upgrade reportedly will make it easier for users to login to wireless networks. The WBA members, including AT&T, Cisco, Comcast, Devicescape, KT Corporation and Verizon, will demonstrate WISPr 2.0 at a three day event. The members want to showcase how all mobile wireless configurations and service providers can connect to WiFi networks using the updated specification. The alliance reckons that its members are all striving to make their respective technologies compatible with WISPr 2.0. The first extended trial period is scheduled to last six months.
