According to a report from Bloomberg, U.S. telecom Verizon Communications Inc. plans to introduce an Internet-based mobile video service in the coming days. The service is called "Go90" and is currently in the testing phase. It targets the young generation and will be offered free of charge at least for now. Initially, Go90 will offer content from AOL, DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc.'s Awesomeness TV, Vice Media Inc. and Viacom Inc. Later on, the service will offer a combination of live shows and on-demand content. Go90 will offer full TV shows, live music videos and short video clips and may also reserve some content exclusively for Verizon's wireless subscribers. Notably, the service will provide applications for iPhones and Android-based smartphones. "It won't be the full entirety of everything that we contemplate within the product set," Verizon Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo said then on an earnings call about the company's mobile video service. "It'll be an initial launch and, as the year goes on, it will progress." Verizon has also signed content distribution agreements with ESPN and Scripps Networks. It is expected over the coming year that the company will add popular channels and NFL games to the service. Read more -here-
