Stadia Pro is free for two months starting today2020-04-08 18:59 by Daniela
Google's game streaming service, Stadia, opened up the free tier of its service in 14 countries Wednesday. Those who sign up for the service will have their subscription upgraded to Stadia Pro for two months (it's normally $9.99 a month) and can receive nine free games as part of the upgraded plan. The full list of countries includes: the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.
"We're facing some of the most challenging times in recent memory. Keeping social distance is vital, but staying home for long periods can be difficult and feel isolating. Video games can be a valuable way to socialize with friends and family when you're stuck at home," Stadia boss Phil Harrison said.
To sign up for Google Stadia's free tier - previously known as "Stadia Base" - you'll first and foremost need a personal Google account. It's important to note that this Google account can't be attached to a G Suite account. So, for example, an approved account would have the email address "firstname.lastname@example.org."
Then, you need to head to Stadia dot com and follow the sign-up instructions. Users will need to download the Stadia app for Android or iOS, and keep in mind that this system requires a keyboard and mouse, or HID compliant USB supported game controller. After the two-month Stadia Pro trial, the service will revert to the base free Stadia service, which is limited to 1080p resolution, 60fps, and stereo sound.
To get two free months as a Google Stadia Pro user, if you're already a Google Stadia Pro subscriber, you'll need take no action whatsoever.
