Sony's "Project Q" is a PlayStation 5 streaming device2023-05-25 18:10 by DanielaTags: Sony, Project Q, Playstation
The PlayStation Vita is long gone, but Sony is making a return to gaming handhelds - in a sense. At Sony's latest PlayStation gaming showcase on Wednesday, the company teased a surprise new device that should be coming later this year. Dubbed the "Project Q," the device allows users to stream gaming to a portable display. Revealed by Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan, the device will able to stream all PS5 games, excluding PlayStation VR2 titles. "We will launch a dedicated device that enables you to stream any game from your PS5 console using Remote Play over Wi-Fi," PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said during the PlayStation Showcase. "Internally known as 'Project Q,' it has an 8-inch HD screen and all of the buttons and features of the DualSense wireless controller." According to the fine print at the bottom of Sony's presentation, games you play on the Q must be installed on a PlayStation 5 console itself - it's apparently designed as a companion for your own PS5, not something that would play games natively like a Steam Deck or phone or even stream them from the cloud.
