Raspberry Pi Foundation announces the Raspberry Pi 400

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has announced a brand new device - the Pi 400. It is a slightly faster version of the 4GiB Pi 4 that ships pre-assembled in a small, wedge-shaped chassis with integrated keyboard. 

With the Raspberry Pi 400, just a few cables, a monitor and mouse are needed to have a basic desktop computer to start programming, surf the web, and enjoy 4K media streaming. With the Raspberry Pi 400, the Raspberry Pi foundation wants to make computers more approachable for children and for those looking to start (or further) their coding career.

Its chiclet keyboard houses the same Broadcom BCM2711 chip found in the Raspberry Pi 4 but has four ARM Cortex-A72 cores running at 1.8GHz, up from 1.5GHz. This could also lead to higher temperatures, something which has already been a concern on the regular Raspberry Pi 4. However, according to the Raspberry Pi foundation, the Pi 400 should stay cool and silent as it comes with especially designed thermals.

The keyboard itself comes with two microHDMI ports, two USB 3 ports, a single USB 2 port, gigabit ethernet, a microSD card slot, a GPIO header for attaching more accessories to the board, and a USB-C port that supplies it with power.

The Raspberry Pi 400 is available on its own for $70 or as part of a bundle that also includes a 16GB microSD card pre-programmed with Raspberry Pi OS, a power supply, mouse, a microHDMI to HDMI cable, and a Raspberry Pi beginner's guide. That will cost $100 in the U.S. and all you'd need to provide is a monitor.
