A newly discovered ramsomware, known as Popcorn Time offers the victims to infect their friends instead of paying for decryption keys.

The malware, which has nothing to do with the popular Bittorrent client with the same name, locks Windows computer's files with strong AES-256 encryption and first tells users they have a week in which to pay one bitcoin ($770) in order to have their files decrypted.

But it also offers victims the chance to infect two other users to avoid payment. And if those users pay the ransom, the initial victim gets a free decryption key.

The scheme was discovered by security researchers MalwareHunterTeam. For now, it's only in development but could soon be released in full.
