A recent report by the cyber security company TrendLabs has revealed that there are over 400 malicious apps in Google Play store.

"Trend Micro has found at least 3,000 trojanised apps hosted by several well-known Android mobile markets, including more than 400 detected on Google Play," the company said in a blog post.

"They range from recreational apps like games, skins and themes to phone optimisation boosters. The malicious code only makes for a small part of the app, making it difficult to detect," explained the firm.

Google is aware of the issue and said that it focuses on resolving the security problem as soon as possible.

In order to avoid infecting their device with malware, users are advised to use legitimate sites to download apps, to keep their operating system current, to get a good antivirus app and to employ a VPN on public Wi-Fi.
