Google will end support for OnHub WiFi routers in 2022

Google has announced that it is ending support for its OnHub routers in 2022. As reported by Android Police, the company has started sending out emails to owners, alerting them that support for OnHub devices will end on December 19, 2022.

After the shutdown date, the routers will still work, but you won't be able to adjust their settings, get any updates, or really do any troubleshooting. Google says its focus will continue to be on mesh Wi-Fi products going forward.

The OnHub was Google's very first attempt at creating a wireless router and paved the way for Google Wifi. It was released all the way back in 2016 by both TP-Link and Asus, and to date, this device is still out there being used by many faithful consumers. It features both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands and automatically connects users to one or the other intelligently – something Google Wifi also learned how to do.

To help current users transition to supported hardware, Google's offering 40 percent off its latest Nest Wifi router to existing OnHub owners by way of unique coupon codes.
