Amazon Pharmacy expands same-day delivery to NYC and LA

2024-03-26 19:17 by

Amazon Pharmacy is expanding same-day shipping to include New York City and Los Angeles today, putting the company more than halfway to its goal of having same-day medication shipments to a dozen US cities by the end of the year.

Now, this is an addition to where they soft launched in Austin, Indianapolis, Miami, Phoenix, Seattle, and College Station, Texas, the last one of note getting their deliveries by drone. So that's a little bit interesting. They're also pushing the idea of renewable energy and being eco-friendly. So a lot of these deliveries are going to happen by e-bikes, by Rivians.

Instead of the sprawling warehouses that are popping up all across America, Amazon uses smaller facilities for these deliveries - small format stores stocked with the most common medicines that are closer to where customers live.

Pharmacists and techs at the small-format facility are said to be able to process a prescription within minutes instead of hours or days thanks in part to help from generative artificial intelligence and machine learning.

When a script is received, AI models can conduct a series of fact-checking tasks that help ensure pharmacists are getting the most accurate information. It can also help to reduce administrative errors.
