Amazon said it plans to discontinue its Prime Now fast-delivery app by the end of the year. Users will be able to get the same service from Prime Now, with deliveries of certain goods and groceries within hours, on the regular Amazon site once the separate app is shut down later this year, Amazon's vice president of grocery, Stephanie Landry, said in a blog post.

"Prime Now has become a customer favorite, attracting millions of Prime members around the world with ultrafast delivery of everyday essentials, gifts, toys, high-quality groceries, and more from Amazon and local stores. To make this experience even more seamless for customers, we are moving the experience from a separate Prime Now app onto the Amazon app and website so customers can shop all Amazon has to offer from one convenient location," Amazon Vice President of Grocery Stephenie Landry wrote in a blog post.

Originally launched in 2014, Prime Now was designed to offer deliveries of essential items within hours rather than days for Prime members. The service was initially available in just a small number of cities, but has since expanded to over 5,000 locations around the world.

Amazon is working with a growing number of Delivery Service Partners companies, independent businesses that contract with the company to deliver packages in Amazon-branded vans and uniforms. Amazon says more than 100,000 people are now employed by these companies.
