Acer's $1,000 bike desk can charge your laptop as you pedal2023-01-06 17:05 by Daniela
The pandemic-induced shift to working from home can make it hard to stay active during the work week. Standing desks, treadmill desks, and bike desks that merge productivity and fitness are one solution to the problem, but Acer's eKinekt BD 3 bike desk takes things one step further. One of the key innovations is that the desk turns kinetic energy from cycling into an electrical charge to power electronics gadgets, such as laptops or smartphones, according to the Taiwanese company. Acer says that one hour of non-stop pedalling at 60 revolutions per minute on the machine can generate 75 watts of power. The desk has two USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C port for device charging. It also has a bag hook and a beverage holder. It has Working and Sports Modes that the company said will allow users to easily shift desk positions while pedaling to either focus on tasks or workouts. A companion smartphone app helps review progress over time and shows information such as duration, calories burned, and watts generated. Acer said the $1,000 retail desk is "a creative way for professionals to combat sedentary lifestyles." It is expected to be available in North America in June. Read more -here-
