Yes, sounds like ICS as YeOSc suggested.

Specifically to your question you'd......
Say nic 1 = 192.168.1.1
nic 2 = 192.168.1.2

then make all pc's "point to" (gateway) = xxxxx.1.1

then set nic 1 to "point to" (gateway) = xxxxx1.2

then nic 2 points/gateways to the router or modem or auto ...

Anyone used Remote Assistance?
I ("expert" running XP home ed) upon accepting an invitation to help friend ("novice" running XP Pro) got error message.....
connection failed, "could not resolve host name".
I am on cable behind a linksys router running NAT. Novice is on straight dialup.

Also, check your user accounts config. You want domain user accounts, not local user accounts in your case. See if they got registered in active directory.

As far as bindings, perhaps this article from Gibson research will help Bindings
For XP of course follow the NT instructions. Make sure the binding configuration match on all machines.

The router needn't be in the trusted zone, just the range of ip's of the boxes on your network.

Try flushing the router (quick press of the reset button on rear. Holding for 3 seconds or so will reset your config).
Try different ports to rule out port gone bad.
Flush the cable modem. Power down (pull the plug) for 15 minutes or so.

As you know, gaming is very data intensive. Since wingate is a software solution you're probably getting data packet collisions.
A hardware solution, such as a router would be more effective.
Don't know of any way to "allocate" bandwidth.

"Network cable unplugged" is actually indictating pc#1 having difficulty negotiating between the 2 CARDS. Double check the setting on each.
S/B straight cable> card to modem, crossover cable> card 2 to pc2.
PC1 with ICS running. Same user account on both machines, and both belong to same workgroup.

Are you using channel 6? Are you using the laptop in the same spot when this happens. Possibly could be something else in the room with the laptop (phone, tuner, etc).

Make sure the same user account exists on both machines, and both machines are in the same workgroup. If you want to do File and Printer Sharing use NetBEUI.

I also had a heck of a time with the XP machine. If you are running wep, that is what held me up. I later found a security addendum (further instructions for XP) on the Linksys site, though it can't find the url now.

You could set 1 of the pc's as the gateway with internet connection sharing. Obviously ethernet would be faster than usb.
There are usb to ethernet pigtails available.
