Time Warner Road Runner service and Linksys Cable Router

Post by dalfiuss »

For some reason I am having a big problem getting the Cable Router to work with my Road Runner service. It seems the router is unable to act as such, even if the ip address and all of the information is setup statically on it.

If you think you might be able to help but need more information just reply and I will see what I can do.

Thanks to all in advance that might be able to help!

I also have RR and Lynksys.
What os are you running and which router model (BFSW..?).
Also, modem? Motorola surfboard?
For now, make sure that your wan mac address is that of the modem.

I am running Win XP Pro, and the Router model is: BEFSR41

How do I determine the MAC address of the modem?

Thanks :)

The MAC address should be on/with your paperwork from the RR install.

Ok, I set the router to the mac address of the modem, still no good :(

I gave it over night, and randomly it is working now. The only problem is that it is going extremely slow (peak I have seen is about 3KB/s).

Anyone know how I might remedy this?

goto ur router's ip address click on advanced look below where it saids mtu 1500 also make sure you have block wan request disabled also one thing you might wannna try if you haven't yet have all the comps that are connected to router and give it a static ip it sounds crazy but it seems like to keep better syc.

No, no. The MAC address that needs to be spoofed into the router is the MAC of your NIC card. That is the MAC that the cable company sees, and is the one that is provisioned. Try that and post back here.

In re: to your speed bottleneck, in addition to checking your mtu setting as suggested, you will find the need to occassionally and might also try flushing (reset button in rear) the router, &/or rebooting (unplug 15 mins or so and repower) the modem. Usually just flushing the router does the trick. You shouldn't have to do this often, but if you have network traffic slowdown, if you first try flushing the router, that usually takes care of the prob.
