Wireless

Post by Zporttech »

Going wireless for the first time. Going to run a Linksys access point off my router. Any special security settings I need to know?

Speaking of Linksys, Office Depot is discontinuing the Linksys line of products. Watch for good buys.

Change the default ssid and password, and enable wep (hopefully 128bit). It probably has diversity spread set as default which "scrambles" the signal. These (help) keep people from accessing your lan from the "airwaves". If you're real nervous about it, you can filter to allow access to only the mac address of computers you know about. You can also, if running DHCP on the router, lower the available ip address range to match the number of boxes in your residence.
