some server do not respond to ICMP requets. try pinging cnet.com. if you can then your setup is fine just the remote networks security settings.

I also believe this to be a DNS issue. Do you see any host records in the zone for your clients? AD intergrated? when you do an nslookup from the command line what does it say?


on a side no on the xp machines make sure that ICF is turned off.

you running your own dns? you have any A host records set staically? try clearing cachse, scavange stale records and update zone data. DNS can cause a lot of issues. try that. net you should try going to the machines and doing an ipconfig /registerdns.

How do i get my ATI 9200 pro to run at 8x AGP? I have 8x enabled in my BIOS on my MSI K7N2 w/ a barton 2500+. When i run sandra 2003 pro it says i'm only running at 4x.

The whole problem with DDOS is that its very difficult to track. I could report this to there domain, but most of the attacks come from computers which are victims of attack themselves. sigh =\. no big deal better me than ebay again. lol

It says its an unassigned TCP port. Couldn't find any Trojan's that use that port. I run NAV with auto updates daily. Slim chance its a virus/trojan.

The disk administrator will allow you to expand your partions in win2k and xp. you have to convert the disks to dynamic first however. It only allows you to expand. you can't shrink a partion size.

You maen you are trying to access the 2nd machine from the first? If so you need match credentials. you need to have the same usrname/pass on both machines to get pass through authentication.

Mostly wrong. It doesn't matter where you split the line. You still will lose some singal strength. It will mess up your rr service if the signal drops to low your modem won't lock up. Then the can just put an amp on the line.

Cat5e has a few more twists in thw wires. Cat5e is not gigabit or 1000Mbits. It can handle 200Mbits. Cat6 is 1000Mbits. no visual diffrence.

how many machines are trying to get an IP from the Win2K machine? 169.xxx.xxx.xxx is an internal IP assigned if it isn't getting one via DHCP. Someone correct me if i am wrong but can Win2K only support 10 connections?

I think you could accoplish this by etting up an NT 4.0 server as a router. It would need multiple NICs to connect to the LAN, WAN, and the cable connection. Gonna take some reaseach and a lot of trial an error, but i belive it can be done.

I have never heard of any damage, but the rule of thumb is don't stack more than 3 hubs. It cause very high latency. you have 70 comps connected through hubs? That was a very poort design. You should have used a router to a switch/switches. That way there is so much traffic on the network.
