Modem on existing NT network

Post by bybeeloft »

Here Goes:

Existing WAN that supplies a very slow internet connection. I want to install a Modem @home into the network, and still keep the connection the drives from the WAN and LAN. The LAN is just a fileserver and no internet capabilities NT. But the WAN supplies Filesystems, and Internet connection. Each PC is configured as follows:

Computer Name: XXXX
Domain: xxxxxxx_west
Netbuie
Tcp/ip (DHCP)
Microsoft Networking
Novell Networking

The workstation grabs a IP from the WAN.

Is there anyway to sneak in the internet Cable Modem in the current config so they can bypass the internet from the WAN and use the modem, but still share the Drives.

Would be a big help, and greatly appreciated.

I think you could accoplish this by etting up an NT 4.0 server as a router. It would need multiple NICs to connect to the LAN, WAN, and the cable connection. Gonna take some reaseach and a lot of trial an error, but i belive it can be done.
