I believe 4 gigs is the max. The best amount to have is the most you can get :D , it really depends on what your using the system for but I would recommend at least 256mb.

the question is...

how much will your motherboard support? if you plan to do a lot of adobe photoshop, paint shop pro and stuff like that, i would have at least 512. if you just play games and surf the net...256mb-512 should be plenty imo.

XP says it needs 128 so it really needs 256 and it runs best with 512+

128 was great back in the day, but ram is dirt cheap, 256 or 512 for starters!

Holy Jesus....I used to moan and groan with NT 4 Server on boxes with that little....but 2K....yet again Adv.....wow....time to grow a coffee plant, mature the beans, roast them, grind them, and brew a pot of coffee before that box gets anything done.

I am running 128 Mb Pc100 in Win 2k and Win 98 SE { dual boot } and its as smooth as a baby's butt . In heavy games I sometimes struggle along at 1024 X 768 but then again , I only have a Voodoo 3
So softly , so perfect , seemingly sleepingly
But for you , sleep , forever will do
Wish only to fight the urge
Beaten senselessly for your basic need
Sunken eyes around me ,
sunken spirits is what I see
Children , old beyond their day

LOL.
You must be crazy. I run win2K server with 640MB PC133 on my AMD 1.2GHz athlon. I mean Low RAM is one thing, but a 333 celeron? Where did your parents go wrong?

With ram being so cheap, why don't you get a 256mb module?

Post by terrancelam »

Like it says, why don't you get 256mb, it's not that much more expensive.
