Angey,
This is a pretty old thread, but I wonder how much of the "CPU usage" is just the processor polling the incoming port(s) for new data.
In other words, it shows high usage but it is not the kind of activity that has an impact on other running programs.
This used to be a phenomenon common ...

I never saw what OS you were using.

hmmmm. That shouldn't produce that kind of performance demand. I wonder if there's something about the settings in IPView producing that. I just loaded it to check on my camera...I think it showed something like 20% at the start and quickly dropped back down to 7-8%.

Webhosts...recommendations?
Greetings,
I wasn't quite sure where to post this one...
After yet another webhost has collapsed on me...I'm shopping for a RELIABLE hosting service. I don't believe a single one of the ads or reviews I've read because it would appear the hosting companies are writing their own reviews.

It should be seeing the router as the gateway, and if it's all set up as you indicated, it should at least be getting the internet.
When you set up the static addresses and disabled DHCP, I'm assuming you did create the static addresses you want to use in the router's setup pages?
Otherwise, what ...

1. What mfg./model router do you have? Its manual should tell you how to use it as a modem, if it has that capability.
2. Call your ISP and ask about upgrading your modem. Motorola and RCA and many others make modems that are both USB and Ethernet. Are you paying them a monthly fee for this?

Well, welcome to the wonderful world of wireless networking.
Fortunately, it's very easy.
In your case, I would just buy a wireless router/4 port switch like the Linksys WRT54G or GS (with Speedbooster.) The cable you now plug from your Comcast cable modem to your computer is plugged into the WAN ...

The printers, generally, have to be "network ready" in order to work with an ethernet print server. All-in-ones, even the "network ready" ones, deliver limited performance...usually printing only.
That printer is USB and does not indicate it is a "network ready" printer. So, I'm going to say ... be ...

Just out of curiosity, I tuned into the cable modem. I'm not sure what this all means...but wonder if the "registering" part means checking on the MAC address. Clearly, it's checking to see how many computerss are connected...see the "Configuration Parameters" at the bottom:

Best Method Extending CAT5 runs...
I'm in the process of adding some hardwire connections in the house due to a hardwood flooring install and renovation project.

You can disable DHCP and the routing functions of one of the routers and connect a hardwire to it. At that point, it's just a wireless access point.
The connection goes from LAN out on one router to LAN in (not WLAN) on the other one (with disabled DHCP/routing.) The first router is designated as ...

I've had to "Clone MAC address" of one of the computers to the router...dunno if it's comcast or what, but it was refusing to allow the router to connect...while it would allow computers to connect.
