Brent: Is it true that you were aware that *UCKUPC didn't work? How about its negative effect? Couldn't you have lifted your ban on UC discussion and simply stated in huge type "*UCKUPC does NOT work, may f-up your settings, etc" and quikly closed off the topic so as to prevent the escalation of ...

Sorry to have assumed that you were referring to the *UCKUPC program. I had seen it popping up more and more often on certain sites and perhaps w/out thinking just thought that was the "new" tweak.
My sincerest apologies if I caused some people to f-up their set-ups and attempt to use *UCKUPC due to ...

I still feel that the most sensible policy would be to have an open and candid discussion regarding the subject. UC is worthy of a forum all its own. There are some people who are quite vocal about their opposition to UC. From a legal point of view, as long as the forum doesn't advocate and directly ...

Well, now!
I knew that an intelligent, coherent, non-flamebaiting discussion could be had regarding *UCKUPC and its claims.
I'm becoming convinced that it just doesn't work (or at least for me) as I really don't have any control from my end as to how big a data pipeline I get which is far different ...

Personally, I agree that uncapping should be discouraged as there is limited bandwidth to be shared and who wants their neighbor to get better performance at the expense of everyone else. Although, it isn't too far a leap to state that the Cablenut tweak, while completely legal and fun, may not be ...

The *UCKUPC.exe patch and TheCableGuy controversy...
O.K., I'll be careful not to mention the "topic which must not be named" (apologies to J.K. Rowling)
"TheCableGuy" was mentioning this patch/program which makes certain unmentionable claims by modifying the ARP table. Certainly, I want to squeeze every last bit of performance out of my cable ...

Well, I kind of doubt that suing will be worth it. I would document the problem the best you can, keep on @Home to fix your problem by having them inspect your lines - replace your modem - replace your NIC card, etc. On top of everything else, be sure to request a credit for lost service time. I got ...

Cablenut 4/WinME registry error (posted on their site!)
I've been using the Cablenut 4 patch since it came out and haven't seen any problems with it but the site noted today that the program was actually writing incorrect (but apparently benign) info into the WinME registry.
Like I said, no problems thusfar but not a big leap in speed as far as I can see ...

Uh, you do realize that the infamous VCR decision doesn't really apply here. It is still highly illegal to use the technology to copy/trade copyrighted materials.
i.e. It is fully lawful to buy/sell VCR's and blank tape but it's a far freaking leap to assume that you can trade/copy whatever you want ...

Hey, re: the Death of Napster...
I just logged on to Napster and saw a total of about >>64<< users w/about 100 GB of MP3's available.
I haven't upgraded to the beta 9.6 version of Napster since I figure what't the point... Maybe there's more people listed if I use the new version but I figure that ...

As for the net itself becoming faster with the imminent death of Napster, I don't know if it will make that much difference unless you share a cable node with other users who are primarily UL/DL on Napster. I could swear that during special events (Super Bowl, Olympic opening/closing, etc) that the ...

OK, I got Cox@Home to replace my DLink w/a Farallon NIC. No idea if it will solve my intermittant connections but I don't have anything connected to the PC that was originally installed by them a couple of months ago.
Do I need to uninstall my patches/reset the registry since I changed NIC cards? It ...
