What is VoIP Auto-Attendant ?

The Auto-Attendant acts as a receptionist capable of answering inbound calls. The attendant typically provides callers with the option of dialing by name/extension, connecting directly to the operator, or connecting to a predefined number of extensions.

Auto-Attendants can usually be turned on and off based on a schedule (many businesses have a "live" receptionist responsible for answering calls during business hours, but use the Auto-Attendant during non-business hours, weekends, and holidays).
