Two USB 2.0 ports allow the DSL-N55U to share printing and scanning functions on a network, and operate as high-speed NAS (Network Attached Storage) when an external storage device is connected. It is fully DLNA certified, and can act as a media server and home entertainment center. Powered USB also serves to recharge portable devices such as smartphones and tablets.
For wired networking, four Gigabit Ethernet ports provide excellent capacity. Data transmission stays fast even when the router is under heavy load, and easy-to-use QoS settings assure that important traffic - VoIP calls or online gaming - isn't adversely affected by large file downloads.

I bought one of these to upgrade from my old 54g belkin. The wifi has a good range and seems like a nice bit of kit until you look at the modem side of it. This router seems to suffer a higher attenuation than my belkin and my connection speed has been reduced. Im getting around 16mpbs when I used to get 17.5mbps and the upload speed is now half that of the belkins.
I ran a few speed tests and the ping comes in arond 30 higher on the asus. The test speed was also unstable the graph showed many peaks and troffs rather than a steady line. Not what you expect from such an expensive router :(
Bought this router as an upgrade from a Billion 7800N. Even with the latest 1.06g firmware the Billion was having a lot of trouble holding a connection at the multiple properties I have lived at - it would drop out, slow down constantly, freeze, etc.
I was syncing at around 19Mbit with the Billion yet Youtube would struggle to pull a 360p stream and on a bad day speedtest.net would report over 500ms ping struggling to go over 3Mbit/s downstream. On an ideal day it would report 37ms best ping and 16Mbit/s downstream but Youtube still struggled and sites were slow to load. Tried playing with the SNR settings, as well as numerous others to no avail. I hooked up the Asus, installation was a breeze even with the original firmware (which I quickly updated to the newest). Now have had a constant stable connection for days, synced at 22.5Mbit, with speedtest.net reporting 19Mbit/s downstream with a ping of 28ms. Youtube video's stream perfectly even at 1080p. Wifi performance has increased from the 7800N's 4 to 6MB/s to a whopping 15 to 20MB/s with the Asus in the same spot. Overall very happy with this modem/router. The interface is super easy and packed with features, easy to set up, has a ton of options, looks fantastic and most importantly my ADSL2+ and Wifi speeds have increased and stabilised exceeding my expectations. Kudos to you Asus, very worthwhile purchase. I'll also mention that with the latest firmware the Asus has a SNR tweaking function similar to that of the Billion which could be very handy. |
