Well.... Your upload speed with cable is capped a lot lower than your download. I would severly restrict the # of people you allow to upload from your machine. See if that helps!

Cheers!

I love Winamp. It uses a lot of bandwidth, however. Just for giggles, ran speed tests, one with Winamp running streaming audio, the other without. Came back 1.5 mbps and 700 kbps respectively, so I can see where your connection may slow down depending what else you're running simultaneously. :)

2) don't allow the prog. to start at bootup and turn it off when you don't explicitely want to share

***All great suggestions; to these I would add:

1) try turning off any file-sharing software you may be running

2) do an online virus scan... http://housecall.antivirus.com

3) download and run the trial version of Tauscan to check for Trojans.... http://www.agnitum.com

What's the IP addr. you pull? If it's 169.254.x.y, swap usb cord and /or ports (bad physical connection) then try unloading the driver from device manager, rebooting and reloading. If it's 192.168.100.x, call your ISP; that's the modem maintenance address which means you are able to communicate with ...

I *think* the way is works is that your "authentication" is your IP addr. In other words, the SMTP server "recognizes" your ip addr. in the packets sent to it as coming from a machine within the range of IPs given out by Comcast, so it forwards your mail.

Cheers! ;)

Try using the combination of "mail.pa.net" for your incoming mail server and "smtp.comcast.net" for your outgoing mail server. No authentication against the SMTP server is necessary. Try it, and let me know if it works.

If you keep having to reset the router every morning, give your ISP a call. Your modem may be dropping offline, which will (sometimes) make you have to reset the router.

Best bet really is to use a router.
