Well there is two ways. The best way is to use a router. If you use a hub or switch you will need to have to add an Ip for each computer you put on the hub or switch. The second way is to set up internet connection sharing host computer

ZXC47 is correct. I have Roadrunner cable, have the Ericsson cable modem connected to a 5-port Linksys hub, then have the hub connected to both my 98SE desktop and XP laptop. I was required to purchase an extra IP address for $10.00 a month.

A router is the best way to go. You buy the router for like 80 bucks and thats it. no monthly charges. not to mention a router adds an extra level of protetion, its a hardware firewall

I have road runner too and like u I also wanted to share. So this is what i did. First of all, like everyone has been telling you, the best way to go is router. The only problem is that a router is pretty expensive. I'll tell you the benefit of it in a sec tho. What i did was buy a hub, considereably cheaper than a router, and a NIC thats made too share the connection. From then i just bought cable, conifgured the sharing NIC, and plugged into the hub. Here's the downside though, you don't have a real IP, so its hard for others to see you. In other words, lets say you wanted to play ghost recon, with your friends from the shared computer. They won't be able to connect to you becuase your ip will be 192.168.xxx.xxx which is an ip reserved for internal networks. Heres where the advantage of a router comes into play. If you have a router, all you have to do is host the game on a rather obscure port #, and give you're friends the IP on your real computer. This is an actually IP they will be able to connect to. The router will automatically detect someone trying to connect, and if you tell them to connect to that rather obscure port number (which you are hosting on from your shared computer) the router will automatically "route" the signal to that port, enabeling you to host from your shared computer. = ) Or you could do neither and pay road runner, why though? If you arn't gonna do anything other than share the connection, and all you want the other comp to do is surf the net and not have interaction with the other comps, then i reccomend a hub. Its cheaper and works well.

I've got Roadrunner and i have 2 rigs set up using a hub. No problems and both my rigs are running 24/7.

I went to staples and got the Netgear EN104TP, 30$ and an xtra cable. Baddabing, baddaboom, 10 minutes, done ;) I've got 2 firewalls on my main rig, not worried about the other rig cuz it does'nt have anything on it. i just use it for Folding.

If you are really cheap, like yours truly :D you could pop an extra nic in one of the machines and install Analog X's proxy on it... You'd put the fahrwall on that machine too...
