Recently, Adelphia, in this area, started offering two different "packages" of connectivity. For over a year my caps were 3000/128 Now they've changed to 2000/256 and one has to pay more for 3000/384. In any event, I adjusted my cable nut settings accordingly but have noticed that when doing a ...

Buffer Size
Could someone please clarify for me this entry in cable nut.
I believe it has something to do with the amount of RAM
allocated; allocated to what , where and why I don't understand.
" LargeBufferSize - The size, in bytes, of large buffers used by AFD. Smaller values use less memory and larger ...

Folder View when CD is inserted
When I insert a CD- XP automatically pops up a page detailing every folder on that CD. I would like to know how to change that behaviour so that the CD autoruns but I don't get the pop-up page detailing all the files that it contains. Thanks much.

Only one user in XP
I ran across a tip last year on how to run XP with one administrative account and nothing else. I am very dense with permissions and so forth and recently had to format and reinstall and wound up with an administrative account and an account with my name on it that is supposedly administratively ...

I guess this opens up another issue regarding speed testing. When downloading a test file of anything over 3 megs, I do not reach 90% of my caps(usually 70%). Anything less than 3, I either surpass my caps or am in the steady 90% category. I see others in this forum testing consistently high with a ...

Dwindling Download Speed
I know that there has been a reference to this before many times in this forum. But I need a refresher.
When I start to download a 5meg or greater file- my download speed will start off fine and as the download continues past maybe the first 3 megs, the speed drops significantly off(as much as 1 mb ...

To quote Vic Mackey "what does early tx threshold do? is 63 best setting for cable?" I've read the article on optimizing.net regarding setting up ethernet adapters and have to admit that I still remain confused. In my settings under "early Tx threshold" I have a value of 38 (I don't know what type ...

Adelphia for me has been a roller coaster as far as speed goes. Sometimes it flies- other times it is as slow as or slower than an analog modem. What has worked for me is, having found my ideal settings when Adelphia is running "full bore (boar?), is not to tamper with them. The speed will bounce ...

Sometime around 1-1:30 am this morning, my download speed abruptly jumped from 4.8 kb/s to around 200.00 kb/s in a matter of seconds. I was in the midst of a huge download and and had "lanspeed" open. It was almost as if someone had decided they'd had enough, turned off their computer and went to ...

Yeah, my upload speed fits into the range of "90% of my cap". Unfortunately, Adelphia is the only broadband available out here. I signed on shortly after it became available in April 02' and thought my self so "F..'en" lucky when I read the numerous gripes about how unstable it was in other parts of ...

How can one tell if someone has "uncapped" their cable modem
I have used the tweaks in this forum to their full advantage. I have Adelphia(3000/128) and for the the last 3 or so months have used what I believe to be my ideal settings. Speed tests and download tests have consistantly been 90% or above my caps and I've had no problems. For the last two weeks ...

Speed as relates to the state of the internet
Through tips and advice I have received by using this forum, I have reached what I believe to be optimum settings for my computer. They have stayed in place now for almost 2 months and I have not felt the need to adjust anything any further. My provider is Adelphia(3000/128) and the only "outage" I ...

Just out of curiosity, are you using a USB Modem. I've had problems with a USB Modem sucking up not only ram but processor time as well in WINXP. This does not happen on my USB setup in Windows 2000.

Thanks for all the input. With Adelphia, When things are going well (and they frequently do) I'm still reaching my cap and above(3000/128). But there are particular times of the day that the aformentioned behaviours occur and maybe two days out of the week that my speed drops to half of my cap or 1 ...

More than likely it is the cable provider Adelphia. I have done nothing new to registry or network configuration for some time and this behaviour has only surfaced the the last week or so. I did, however, install Win2k SP3 that's been floating around and I know that several key DHCP service files ...
