Buffer Size

Post by gaeill »

Could someone please clarify for me this entry in cable nut.
I believe it has something to do with the amount of RAM
allocated; allocated to what , where and why I don't understand.

" LargeBufferSize - The size, in bytes, of large buffers used by AFD. Smaller values use less memory and larger
values can improve performance.

Value Type: REG_DWORD

Default: PAGE_SIZE (4096 bytes on i386, 8192 bytes on Alpha"

In any event my currnt cablenut settings are as follows:

LargeBufferSize: 409600

MediumBufferSize: 150400

SmallBufferSize: 12800.

I have seen differing opinions on these settings ie 81920 or 40960 for large, 15040 for medium and 1280 for small.

My system has 512 of Ram. WINXP SP"2"

What are optimal settings or is this just a matter of preference?

I am getting 90% or better of my advertised cable speed for the most part consistantly

Thanks

AFD - Ancillary Function Device. It is the entry point for Winsock functions to get to TCP\IP. They help stabilize and speed up your connection. DefaultReceive & Send Window values are based on your caps in kilobytes multiplied by 1024. The other values are your preference.

:D
