That modem is ancient. You need to upgrade for faster service. Plus you would get better performance all around upgrading the modem. Even on a slower plan.

Linksys WRT54GL and Tomato firmware disable dnsmasq....?

Any one know how to do that. I am using 1.23 version of Tomato. I thought by unchecking the cache box. And rebooting the router. Woould do the trick. Dnsmasq is still enabled though.

Linksys actually lets you set it to that? Not saying I do not believe you. Can you post a screen shot?

dd-wrt default == 70mW.

wrt54g default == 19 mW on early version 2, other versions are set at 28mW, newest Linksys firmware allows increasing the TxPower to 40 mW .

Curious. I got to looking at the product manual. It says the RF power output is set to 18 dbm. Is that equal to 63mW? Or is the Linksys manual wrong?

Tomato and Linksys WRT54GL transmit power?

Any benefit to bumping it up from the stock setting of 42mW to 70mW? I see quite a few people running it at 70mW. Does it effect the life of the router? Does it pose any kind of health risk over time? Mine is brand new.

First couple of things to check for wireless. What channel are you using? Do a scan and find a channel people are not using. Best channels are 1, 6 and 11. Make sure you have the latest wireless drivers as well.

Just got a Linksys WRT54GL and flashed it with Tomato firmware. Router is secured and I am on cable internet. Every thing is working great. I am using pretty much the default settings. Why is it in my tracert. Hop 2 will time out every single time?

It is worth it to me if your a heavy user. I have Charter and been on there 5mb/512, 10mb/1mb and now the 16mb/2mb plan. I can notice a nice jump between the 3. My network looks like this:

Xbox 360
Nintendo Wii
DTV

Possibly adding another pc down the line as well. Under full network load ...

Sorry to bring this back from the dead. I thought it would be better then making a whole new thread. I upgraded to the 16mb/2mb tier about a week or so ago. General question. The slider that is in the optimizer. Am I suppose to move that to the 16,000kbps since I am on the 16mb/2mb tier now?

I am using a Toshiba PCX2200 cable modem and found out it could be holding back my speed. Are your settings still optimal overall for 10mb/1mb service? Or will I need to make changes again when picking up my new modem to get full speeds?
