Can older cable modem handle 20meg ?!

Post by KindredSpirit »

Hello and thanks for your great site.

I own an older Toshiba cable modem model #DAZ8817F. I'm wanting to try Charters' new 20mb service. They say my Toshiba modem can't handle 20mb service...that it is limited to 5mb.

Is this true guys? (and/or gals!) Is there something I can do to make the older Toshiba capable of handling the new speeds?

Or do I have to break down and go out and buy a Motorola Surfboard?
( I live in a rural area and don't get to town much : P )

thanks for reading and again for your site...

That modem is ancient. You need to upgrade for faster service. Plus you would get better performance all around upgrading the modem. Even on a slower plan.
