Netgear Orbi

details: Home WiFi System
hardware type: Mesh Wireless
date added: 2017-01-15

Orbi is a Tri-Band Home WiFi System with 3x3 MIMO technology. It consists of an Orbi Router (RBR50) and an Orbi Satellite (RBS50). The router has 1 WAN and 3 LAN ports and the satellite has 4 LAN ports.

The Orbi Home WiFi System reaches up to 4,000 square feet through WiFi barriers like walls, stairs and doors using Tri-Band Mesh technology.

Orbi provides a dedicated third band that provides the fastest possible speed between Orbi units letting you increase your range without limiting your speed.

Orbi works with your Internet service provider right out of the box without needing to change your current equipment. Orbi uses a single WiFi name (SSID) and with just a couple of clicks, your secure WiFi network will be ready in no time. Netgear does not require you to sign up for an account to use the Orbi Home WiFi System. Use the Orbi app to install & personalize your Orbi Home WiFi System.

Unlike a mesh WiFi system, the Orbi uses a star topology at this point, it is more like a router, and an extender with dedicated wired/wireless backhaul. Satellite devices are only allowed to communicate with the main router and clients, but not with each other. This may possibly be addressed with a future firmware update, and is not an issue when only two devices are used.

The default IP for the Orbi router is 192.168.1.1 and the satellite 192.168.1.2. The router's admin interface can also be accessed via web browser at orbilogin.com
