D-Link DIR-412

details: Mobile Wireless Router
hardware type: Travel Router
date added: 2010-07-26
updated: 2015-11-01
The D-Link Mobile Wireless Router allows users to access worldwide mobile broadband. Simply insert a compatible 3.5G USB adapter and share your 3.5G Internet connection through a secure, high-speed wireless network. Enjoy increased speed and range over traditional 802.11g/b standards thanks to the latest Wireless N150 technology. A 10/100 Ethernet WAN (LAN) port allows you to attach a DSL/Cable modem as the primary or backup link, while auto-failover ensures an uninterrupted connection by automatically connecting to your 3.5G (HSUPA/HSDPA/UMTS) network whenever the WAN link is lost.

The DIR-412 ensures a secure Wi-Fi network through the use of WPA/WPA2 wireless encryption. Simply press the WPS button to quickly establish a secure connection to new devices. The DIR-412 also utilizes dual-active firewalls (SPI and NAT) to prevent potential attacks and intrusions from across the Internet.

I own a DIR-412 and I am not satisfied with the performance. Signal strength is not better than my Linksys WRT54G. Two walls, and you'll get only one bar signal if not nothing. Very disappointing because one of the Wireless N promise is to have increased range coverage.
I also frequently lose access to the 3G internet. My computer can access the DIR-412 administration pages and get an IP from it, but somehow it failes to trigger the 3G modem to initiate an internet connection session (I setup only 3G internet connection and I set it to connect on demand.) I have to restart the router (that is turn the power off-wait-and turn it on again) to enable the 3G internet access.
