Verizon starts deploying LTE in its AWS spectrum2013-10-16 09:37 by DanielaTags: Verizon, LTE, AWS
A Verizon spokesman confirmed that Verizon Wireless has started deploying LTE in its AWS spectrum to boost bandwidth, help its infrastructure cope with growth and improve reliability. Most of Verizon's current 4G LTE network operates in the 700MHz frequency, better known to many as band 13. As the rollout of this band 13 network is largely complete, up to 5,000 AWS sites will go live to help strengthen the network and ease-up on the capacity demand.
The company claims that speeds will likely be slower than 80 Mbps once the Verizon network gets more fully loaded with AWS-capable devices, but will be faster than the 5-12 Mbps average Verizon has advertised for its existing LTE network. Customers should have in mind that only handsets with the appropriate radios can surf the AWS band. Verizon says an update for phones supporting the right hardware, such as the Galaxy S 4, is due in the near future. Read more -here-
