Verizon develops live TV app for tablets

Verizon is working on iPad and Android apps allowing users to watch live TV and movies in the home and on the go.

Surprisingly, the company seems to have announced its plans before finalizing deals with media providers: "Technically we're done, so now we're in discussions with our content partners," chief information officer Shaygan Kheradpir told Reuters.

The app, called What's Hot, allows viewers to pick and choose amongst live shows being broadcast locally, and users can sort options by program type - sports or news, for example.

The company is likely to release an Android version first, with an iPad app to follow - Verizon says it plans to submit the app to Apple for approval by the end of the year. It will hook up to the company's Fios TV network, which currently has over three million users.
