Twitter users worldwide report site outages

2022-12-29 19:45 by

Twitter users around the world reported problems accessing the website and other technical glitches on Wednesday night.

The outage, which appears to be affecting international users in the U.K., Canada, Germany, Italy and India, began at about 4 p.m. Pacific time. Third-party web monitoring services including NetBlocks and DownDetector confirmed receiving reports from users. DownDetector said the vast majority of complaints suggest that Twitter is largely facing an issue on desktop.

Many users were still able to use the platform, while others were met with an error message that read "something went wrong, but don't fret – it's not your fault".

Twitter CEO Elon Musk tweeted he was still able to use the service. "Works for me," Musk posted in response to a user who asked if Twitter was broken.

The outage comes two months after Musk's $44 billion takeover of Twitter, which has been marked by chaos and controversy. Hundreds of Twitter employees quit the social media company in November, by some estimates, including engineers responsible for fixing bugs and preventing service outages.
