T-Mobile has announced a new plan aimed at seniors. The One Unlimited 55+ plan launches on August 9th and will give users two lines with unlimited data, talk and texting for $60 per month, or $50 for one line. There's just one catch: the new T-Mobile One Unlimited 55+ plan is only available for customers aged 55 and up.

To put that price in context, two lines of unlimited data at T-Mobile currently cost $100 a month, and that reflects a promotional discount. T-Mobile One, the company’s unlimited plan, costs $70 a month for one line of unlimited data.

The new plan will be a direct competitor of the similar plans that other carriers offer.

"For years, the carriers have been patronizing the generation that invented wireless," T-Mobile CEO John Legere said in a statement. "They thank these mobile pioneers by selling dumbed down 'senior' plans with exactly zero data and — get this — night and weekend minutes! That’s not just idiotic — it's insulting!"

More than 93 million Americans in the U.S. are over age 55 and about 74 percent of them have a smartphone. Research shows Baby Boomers spend almost two and a half hours a day on their smartphones, almost as much as millennials who average about three hours a day.
