T-Mobile is celebrating today, as it reaches a new and important mark for its fast 5G. T-Mobile says that it has already reached its goal of covering 200 million people with Ultra Capacity 5G, weeks ahead of time.
"We're delivering game changing Ultra Capacity 5G to people across the country at an unprecedented pace, putting us in a network leadership position with a two-year head start on the competition. And that gap is only getting wider as we speed up," said Mike Sievert, CEO of T-Mobile. "Only T-Mobile is delivering a 5G network capable of truly transforming the smartphone experience – 5G's first killer app – and that's just the beginning. With Ultra Capacity 5G nationwide, we're unleashing innovators across the country to build new 5G applications that will change the world."
To clarify, T-Mobile's Ultra Capacity 5G is made up of the mid-band that it's been rapidly expanding plus its high-band mmWave 5G. And the uncarrier highlighted that it's been this focus on the mid-band along with mmWave that's seen it surpass its competitors.
And just because T-Mobile's 5G UC network has hit the milestone doesn't mean that there's still not a lot of work to do in building out its network further: thanks to concentrated population clusters in the US in major cities and dense urban areas, it's comparatively easy to reach "big" coverage numbers. T-Mobile's future rollout plans are expected to go much slower as a result, with the company hoping to reach 5G UC coverage for 300 million people over the next two years.
