Sprint Lauches 4G LTE in Mid-2012

The LTE push in the US continues to gather pace, with Sprint announcing that it will launch its own LTE in mid-2012 using the 1900MHz band. The new 4G network is expected to be built out by 2013.

The first thing that Sprint plans to do is to shut down its iDEN(INFO) network, used for its push-to-talk services for the Nextel brand. The iDEN network runs on 800MHz spectrum, and Sprint intends to migrate users from iDEN to its new CDMA-based push-to-talk services by 2013.

Full migration of Sprint LTE 4G will take it to 2013, though if LightSquared spectrum becomes available (pending FCC approval) it will continue on to 2015.
