Sony to remove PlayStation's Twitter integration on PS4, PS52023-11-07 14:34 by DanielaTags: Sony, Playstation
Sony is terminating integration with X, the social media service formerly known as Twitter, on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles next week. According to a notice posted to PlayStation's support website, the ability to "view any content published on X on PS5/PS4, and the ability to post and view content, trophies, and other gameplay-related activities on X directly from PS5/PS4" will end on Nov. 13. "As of November 13, 2023, integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles," the message on Sony's website reads. "This includes the ability to view any content published on X on PS5/PS4, and the ability to post and view content, trophies and other gameplay-related activities on X directly from PS5/PS4 (or link an X account to do so)." The change is bad news for gamers who share PlayStation screenshots and footage of their gameplay to Twitter/X. They'll soon have to settle for other social media platforms, such as YouTube or Twitch, unless they manually share the content to Twitter/X. Sony didn't elaborate on why it's cutting off the access. But earlier this year, Twitter/X began charging developers $42,000 per month or higher to access its API, which can let third-party apps quickly pull and post information to the social media platform. The high API fee not only turned off developers, but also some companies, including Sony's rival in the video game market, Microsoft. In April, the company shut off a similar feature for the Xbox to easily share game clips to Twitter/X. That means Nintendo appears to be last remaining console vendor with a direct sharing option on X. Read more -here-
