Samsung has been hacked

Samsung has confirmed a security breach after hackers obtained and leaked almost 200 gigabytes of confidential data, including source code for various technologies and algorithms for biometric unlock operations.

The statement from the South Korean electronics giant comes after hacking group Lapsus$ claimed over the weekend via its Telegram channel that it has stolen 190 gigabytes of confidential Samsung source code.

"There was a security breach relating to certain internal company data," said Samsung in a statement reported by Bloomberg News and SamMobile. "According to our initial analysis, the breach involves some source code relating to the operation of Galaxy devices, but does not include the personal information of our consumers or employees. Currently, we do not anticipate any impact to our business or customers. We have implemented measures to prevent further such incidents and will continue to serve our customers without disruption."

Access to source code can help threat actors find security vulnerabilities that otherwise might not be easily found, potentially opening affected devices or systems to exploitation or data exfiltration.

The group, which also claimed responsibility for a previous hack on Nvida during which it allegedly obtained the source code for the company's DLSS technology, hasn't made it clear if they've demanded money from Samsung, as they had claimed to do with Nvidia.
