Spam-fighting organization Spamhaus said Wednesday that it had been victim of a massive distributed denial-of- service (DDoS) attack since mid-March, apparently from groups angry at being blacklisted by the Geneva-based group.
The company tracks the Internet's spam operations and sources, and maintains real-time, spam-blocking databases that help Internet networks weed out bogus email. The problems began when Spamhaus added a firm known as Cyberbunker to its blacklist. Experts have warned that this is one of the largest ever cyber attacks and it is slowing global internet services. The sheer size of the attack has already affected Internet users everywhere, according to Patrick Gilmore of Akamai Technologies.
