Opera shutting down its VPN for iOS, Android

Opera has confirmed that it is killing off its VPN for iOS and Android at the end of the month. The company hasn't given any reason for the move.

Opera's VPN shut down is only applicable to the version launched on mobile. It seems that for now Opera's desktop browser will continue to offer VPN services.

Those who are Opera Gold members (which was the commercial paid-for version of the product) will be given the option of having a free one-year subscription to SurfEasy Ultra VPN. Actually, Opera VPN was built on SurfEasy's network. People using the free version of Opera VPN, can get 80 percent off SurfEasy Total VPN, which is regularly $4.99 a month.

When Opera VPN's mobile app launched in 2016, it brought a free, unlimited VPN browser to mobile phones and tablets. Mimicking many of the features found in its desktop browser, the app let you select between a number of countries and included a built-in ad blocker. Shortly after its launch, the company launched a paid Opera VPNGold service on iOS that boosted the speed, doubled the regions, and added dedicated customer support for $30 a year.
