In order to help its customers know what the real speed provided by their ISP is, Netflix has launched a new online tool. Fast.com uses Netflix servers to test user's download speed. It is ad-free and is accessible from any phone, laptop or smart TV all around the world.

No technical knowledge is required for using the tool. When loaded, the site immediately starts calculating what your current Internet download speed is.

"We all want a faster, better Internet, yet Internet speeds vary greatly and can be affected by other users on your network or congestion with your Internet service provider," said David Fullagar, vice president of content delivery architecture at Netflix, in a blog post.

"When you're experiencing streaming issues, fast.com allows you to check the download speeds you're getting from your Internet service provider. Using Netflix servers, fast.com works like other globally available tools including speedtest.net, and the results should be similar in most cases."
