Netflix adds offline viewing

2016-12-01 03:19 by

The streaming giant Netflix already allows its users to download films and TV shows in advance to watch them without an internet connection.

The option is available on iOS and Android devices. It works with all Netflix plans. Users need to update their Netflix app to the latest version, which launched yesterday.

Downloadable content can be found via the new "Available for Download" category inside the app. A download button will appear next to the videos that can be stored for offline viewing.

"While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we've often heard they also want to continue their 'Stranger Things' binge while on airplanes and other places where Internet is expensive or limited," Eddy Wu, director of product innovation, wrote in a blog post.

There are some limitations, though. Not every show and movie in the Netflix catalog are included. Netflix notes that many of its big shows, including Orange is The New Black, Narcos and The Crown, are available to download today. More content will be available for offline viewing later.
