Mozilla announced today that it has opened preoders for the new Firefox OS Flame phone. The company partnered with independent design house and manufacturer T2Mobile to manufacture the phone. The Flame will be available through EverBuying first, at $170 USD, and will be served updates by T2Mobile. The phone is a mid-tier device which has a 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 4.5-inch 854x480 pixel screen, a 5 megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front camera, 8GB of onboard storage and dual-SIM support. The big feature, however, might be the 256MB - 1GB adjustable RAM; this allows developers to set how much RAM is allowed the OS via software configuration, so that they can theoretically test against a range of devices from low- to mid-tier. The phone will take about four weeks to ship once preordered for free anywhere in the world except Japan, which has different regulations than other regions on mobile phones. Devices certified for use in Japan will become available at a later date, according to Mozilla's website.
