Microsoft is laying off 1,900 workers at Activision, Xbox, and ZeniMax2024-01-25 15:33 by DanielaTags: Microsoft, Activision, Xbox, ZeniMax
Microsoft is laying off 1,900 workers - or around 8% of Microsoft Gaming's 22,000 employees - from its gaming division. The majority of layoffs are at Activision Blizzard, according to the Verge, though cuts will impact Xbox and ZeniMax employees, too. According to Microsoft, the downsizing serves to eliminate overlap between the company's existing employees and those acquired as part of the merger. Microsoft's $68.7 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard is currently the most expensive acquisition in gaming history. "We will provide our full support to those who are impacted during the transition," an internal memo penned by Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer and obtained by The Verge reads. Specific relief measures have not yet been clarified. The latest round of layoffs comes as thousands of employees in the tech industry have been cut so far this year. More than 23,000 tech workers have lost their jobs in cuts made this month alone, according to data from Layoffs.fyi. Read more -here-
