FCC votes to start net neutrality rollback2017-05-19 11:40 by DanielaTags: FCC, Net Neutrality
The FCC voted on Tuesday 2:1 to officially propose an order that would kill net neutrality rules put in place by the previous administration. These rules were designed to ensure that all online content and services get equal treatment online. However, the new FCC chairman Ajit Pai, argues that they represent unnecessary government meddling in the internet's infrastructure. "Today, we propose to repeal utility-style regulation of the Internet," Chairman Ajit Pai said in a statement. "We propose to return to the Clinton-era light-touch framework that has proven to be successful. And we propose to put technologists and engineers, rather than lawyers and accountants, at the center of the online world." Many ISPs and industry associations applauded the move. Among them were Verizon, Comcast, the Telecommunications Industry Association, and Tech Knowledge. The process will take at least several months, during which time various interested parties can file comments with the FCC. Read more -here-
